You may manually scroll the text by dragging in the applet area.

When the mouse enters the applet area, the speed of the gear rotation will slow, then the gear and the text will animate in reverse. When the mouse exits the applet area, the original direction of rotation and scrolling will be restored.

The scrolling speed is a bit fast, but people are able to read faster in the year 2100.
